The council of Japan Platform, formed by
the government, business sector, and NGOs representatives, decided on 27th
March 2002 to support the relief activities for the victims of the earthquake
in Afghanistan.
Japanese NGOs, with the support of Japan
Platform, are now deploying in Afghanistan for the humanitarian assistance
activities for the IDPs and for the reconstruction process of Afghanistan.
Immediately after the earthquake, Japanese NGOs in Afghanistan mobilized
to assist the victims of the earthquake.
Japanese NGOs in Kabul and Mazar-i-Shalif work closely with UN agencies and other international NGOs and coordinate their relief activities with them. Peace Winds Japan in Mazar office sent the survey staff to assess the needs of the site and will send the trucks and other vehicles for the transport of the relief goods. MeRU (Medical Emergency Relief Unit) in Mazar, with other international NGOs, dispatched the emergency medical team with the emergency health kit. JEN and AAR in Kabul are also preparing the relief goods. From Japan, Japan Rescue Association dispatched the rescue team with the rescue dogs.
Japan Platform is a system to provide the emergency relief in natural disasters and refugee situations more effectively and quickly. This will be realized through an equal partnership of NGOs, businesses and government, with each constituent making full use of its resource and characteristics.
